Build automation an operator can turn off
Automation that cannot be audited does not stay switched on. The design constraint is not accuracy — it is whether a human can see why it acted and undo it.
The failure mode of business automation is not that it makes a wrong decision. It is that it makes a decision nobody can explain, and a week later someone switches the whole thing off.
Every action needs its trigger attached
When an automated rule pauses a campaign, reorders a part or sends an escalation, the record has to carry what the rule saw at the moment it acted — the metric, the threshold, the timestamp. Not "rule 4 fired". An operator who cannot reconstruct the decision cannot defend it to their manager, so they will stop trusting it.
Reversibility is a feature, not a safety net
If an action cannot be undone from the same interface that shows it, the automation is asking for trust it has not earned. Reversibility is what allows an operator to let it run on the marginal cases rather than restricting it to the obvious ones — which is where the value actually is.
Start narrower than you want to
The instinct is to automate the whole decision. The version that survives contact with an operations team automates the unambiguous end of it and escalates the rest. Trust is accumulated, and the cost of losing it is that the system gets disabled entirely rather than adjusted.
What to build first
- The log, before the rules — you cannot debug what you did not record
- A read-only mode that shows what the rules would have done
- One rule, on the clearest case, with a human confirming for a period
- Reversal from the same screen that displays the action
- Only then widen the scope

An expired domain is a business risk, not an IT problem

A lapsed domain does not just take down a website. It breaks email, invalidates printed material, and can be re-registered by anyone. Here is the actual timeline and where the recovery windows close.

The margin on an import is decided before the order is placed, by four checks most first-time importers skip. Each is free and takes a phone call.

Not the obvious set. The right answer comes from where your buyers actually are and what your competitors have neglected — and adding a language is a commercial decision, not a translation task.
